"Disappointing Quality" 2010-02-20

I recently purchased two of these fight pads and would rather not have spent the money.

Pros - These controllers look good and you can choose most of your favorite fighters now.

- The form factor, larger d-pad, and button layout are definitely better and a more logical setup than a standard controller for SF4.

- The price is reasonable, and these are the mainstream solution for people who want an alternative to a standard PS3 controller for SF4.

Cons - Cheap rattling feel of buttons and D-pad; these feel as if they will fall apart just in time to buy new ones next Christmas.

- Poor wireless solution- you need to feed these things AA batteries and hope that your USB receiver will function consistently. I would much rather a wired solution that works.

I had to return one of the two units due to connectivity issues. Apparently many of these controllers ship with bad USB receivers, and this appeared to be the case with one of mine. The unit that functions, however, still randomly loses connection in game from time to time.

I am going to hold on to these as spare controllers if people want to use them instead of the PS3 DS controller, but I will be investing in a better quality arcade stick for my own regular use.

I'm a huge street fighter fan, and read all the reviews on how these MAD CATZ pads were somewhat unreliable. Even though, I went out and purchased one....I believe, one of the newer ones, or second version. Well, after using it for only a few hours, the directional pad feels like it's been worn down already to the right side, which is the side most single players would play on. I don't feel the crispness I felt when I had started playing with it like I still do when I'm on the opposite side (using the left side). So, moves are sometimes hard to pull of when I'm facing to the right, or I should say not as easy. A big disappointment. Would I recommend this product...NO. Will I get another one...NO! I'll probably would look into the stick configurations available besides these.

Well, The SF4 round 2 fightpad is almost exactly the same as the round 1 model. The only change is the artwork, obviously. The buttons feel responsive with the exception of the ones on the shoulders. I feel as if the shoulder buttons don't depress enough to give me the satisfaction of pressing a button, but they do make a clicking sound so it's acceptable. The rubber grips work well I suppose, my hands don't sweat at all even if I play for hrs. I personally think that the "turbo" button is too close to the "back" button, I used to hit it accidentally while trying to press back(until I opened up the controller and removed the turbo button lol). The D-Pad still has its huge size but I don't mind at all as moves come out easier. If I had to describe how it feels, I'd say its like the D-Pad was placed on the shaft of joystick. I have 2 MAJOR gripes with these controllers. 1. The plastic MC uses on the D-Pad is too slippery(coming from a man whose hands don't sweat during play). I modified my D-Pad to my liking, some people prefer it the way it is. My 2nd gripe with the controller is that after awhile of heavy use, the D-Pad gets "mushy" and sometimes sticks in place. I opened up the controller and discovered that the mushiness was a result of the silicon membrane(the thing that makes buttons pop back up after you press em') underneath the D-Pad was actually breaking!!! I find that unacceptable since my wired 360 controller which I had for over 3 years still works fine. Maybe madcatz should sell silicon membranes for the people who spend $40 a pop just to get a new one(since the controller itself is fine, just the D-Pad membrane). So is this controller good for fighting games, YES. Would I buy another one if this one malfunctions, NO. Hope you found this helpful.

I am very pleased with these headphones. The sound quality is great (especially compared with the ear buds I had been using) and the mic works well. However, the vibration feature doesn't seem to work at all. I haven't tried using it with batteries, but when plugged into a USB2 it makes no noticeable difference. I haven't felt the slightest bit of vibration, even when cranked to the highest level, and I've been playing games that should trigger some vibration. What's worse is that the second I switch on the vibration feature a very loud (LOUD!) buzz begins. I don't know if my pair got dropped in shipping or what, but I nonetheless think this is a very nice pair of headphones with mic.

I have just discovered vibrating headsets ( i would have never thought of a vibrating headset!!!), and i would have thought they would cost hundreds of dollars. This baby only cost $10 Was received extreamly fast and was suprized what i found in the box. Not only did the headphones look AMAZING!, but the cord is very long, comes with usb AND AAA battery power pack!!, AND the headset even works when there IS NO POWER SUPPLY! Its like taping a sound sensitive Xbox360 controller that's has headphones and REALLY comfortable to your head. The headphones are amazing, and i will be buying many more products from Saitek.

This headset seems like the ultimate gaming device; talk with your friends online while playing and "feeling" the game through the headsets vibration functions. It's disappointing. The mic itself is very poor quality. With system settings and chat program volume (Ventrilo to talk with guild mates) no one could hear me at all. And the vibration is a big let down. I was expecting "vibration" not a minute amount of bass coming from the headphones. I get more function out of my subwoofer at half power than these things do at max settings. Gamers, if you want a good set of headphones, look elsewhere. Try looking for ones that offer good bass feedback, not "vibration."

"A Decent Controller" 2009-09-10

I just recieved my Saitek controller today and I was really excited to try it out. It worked well for my MUGEN 2D-game fighting engine, but the problem I have with this is that the controller came with a warning label saying the cable contains lead. I don't think I want that stuff inside me or in any my friends. If no one minds, it is a good and inexpensive controller to have for arcade fighting games. Just make sure you wash your hands so you don't accidentally get some of that lead inside you.

I have been using my P220 gamepad for over 6 years.

Never any problems, never a sore thumb.

I very much recommend this controller for many genres of gaming.

and you cant beat the price either.

I wanted to upgrade to the Saitek controller with analog sticks/10 buttons until i noticed that the D pad on that version does not look as comfortable as the P220.

if you dont really need analog controls, stick with the P220 for its unique D pad that will last you a long time, unlike the newer model.

Buttons are all fine, I bought two of them, and the most important part, the directional pad, works great on one of them, but it was not so great on the other one. If you can get one with a decent D pad then it's a great controller, but if you run into one with a factory defect, then good luck doing a super cancel in a fighting game

This is a good gamepad for the PC. I like that it is largely a straight-forward, solid, no frills controller. I own 2, and have had zero problems. I use these for retro gaming and for modern PC games and flight simulators. My only gripe would be that the directional pad has only a small amount of resistance, which can make you "whiff moves" if you are not used to it.

There are too many gamepads today with useless features, grandiose designs, ect...and they always cost more and deliver less! I wish manufacturers for PC's would look at a Playstation 2 controller and copy that design. Oh well, like another reviewer said, you can use a Playstation 2 controller on a PC with a conversion part. Anyway, again, the Saitek P220 is a solid controller.

I really liked my old Sidewinder 3D Pro, but it's become a problem getting the new operating systems to recognize it on the still great but aging Creative Live Drive gameport. I've lusted for the Saiteks. So I got this wireless one to continue uncluttering my desk. I'm tall and have big hands, so I thought an adjustable one would be cool.

Beefs:

1. It had a dead stick button out of the box. In searching for another controller, I've noticed others Saitek reviewers had dead button problems. A switch with wires is not rocket science folks.

2. I tried it with the games I'm playing and no amount of adjustment made using it comfortable. If my hands were half again as large, maybe. Who user tests this stuff?

3. Throttle is hard to use where it is.

I sent it back and got a refund.

The "any but Saitek quest" goes on.

I'm a long time user of the Cyborg line of joysticks. So when it came time to get a new one I decided on this model because the wireless feature. Which ill go into in a moment.

The first thing i noticed after taking it out of the box was the size of the USB adapter. It basically takes up 2 slots it's so big. I stuck the software disk in only to be told it dosnt support Windows Vista. I had to go to Saiteks website to download the drivers and the keymapper program which isnt made very well I might add.

After getting everything installed I put it to work. I was shocked by how large the dead zone is, you have to almost move the entire stickto the limit of it's axis to get it to move in a game. I've spent hours trying to tweak this issue with limited success. X3 The Reunion performing the best but i think that was mainly because of there joystick configuration option they built into the game. another problem I've had is latency. Sometimes the response times are a bit low and seems to lag behind. Which obviously is bad for any game you would be using this for.

The sleep mode this joystick has is also very annoying. It will shut itself off if not used every seemingly 10 minutes or less. Turning it bacl on will not reestablish connection, you have to remove the battery and put it back in. This only works about 50% of the time.

Despite all these flaws when it does work it works well, but for me isnt worth all the headaches it's caused. I'm already looking for a new joystick and I suggest you just forget about this thing and do the same.

I like the wireless version of this controller for the obvious reason of not having to plug in the old one and deal with another cable laying around. As read in other reviews, the stick does have a problem "waking up" for play time. I found that it was better to just take out the battery when not in use and then put it back in after I load up a new flight. Overall response is good and I have not noticed any unintentional movements or episodes of lost control as mentioned in other reviews. If you like the old evo stick then you will be happy with this one too.

It's possible that the problem was with this specific unit, but the joystick was subject to frequent disconnections apparently tied to RF interference. Despite changing the joystick's channels and using numerous alternate batteries, as well as removing most interfering devices away (really, only 3 nearby items transmitting on the 2.4 gHz range), the stick still proved to be too intermittent. Subsequent purchase of the Logitech equivalent proved to be more stable, without any interference.

This is a shame, too, as the stick was built beautifully. It certainly has a superior throttle control to the Logitech, as well as a great layout and overall construction quality. The Saitek software works quite well, and the profiler was easy to use. The movement on the stick was also quite solid, being superior, in fact, to the overly light touch required for the Saitek X52.

"A gaming monster" 2010-05-13

I replaced my Saitek Eclipse II with this monstrosity (in the good sense of the word) over a year ago. Unlike the slim-ish and light Eclipse, this thing is huge and heavy. It has verything a gamer wants: 12 programmable buttons, mic and headphone jacks plus a USB expansion port (I think it's USB 1, but who cares, I use it for the mouse), adjustable lights, you can even modify brightness and color for different sections of the keyboard. Brilliant!

The only thing that really bothered me was the included wrist rest. As you can see on pictures, it has a concavity in the middle -- a perfectly symmetrically correct feature -- however, it is right where your right wrist rests when typing. So typing is awkward, to say the least. I almost immediately replaced it with a silicon pad. Makes me wander though why such a poor design choice? I loved the ergonomic wrist rest in my Eclipse. Here it seems to be a step backwards.

Also, AWSD keys, arrows and spacebar wrapped in silver foil look a bit weird. However, their smooth to touch surfaces are easily distinguished from other keys. That is especially helpful with AWSD keys when playing in the dark.

About keys in general, I understand they are build to take a lot of abuse and to last for years, they look like they are made of some chepo plastic. They could look a bit better, in my opinion.

The provided software is pretty simple. Although, it requires a bit of studying of the user manual. Programmable options include everything from simple key bindings and sticky keys to complex macros and keyboard-mouse combinations.

I received this product as a Christmas gift and within a month I had to get rid of it.

Even the slightest impact(even from bumping into it with a forearm) will irreparably destroy one or more macro key. The heavily-touted "metal-plated WASD keys" quickly wear off, leaving a smokey-black translucent key that looks absolutely terrible. Other keys aren't much better; they wear off and the backlighting goes from coming through the letter to coming through the whole key. The macro software is irritating to use and ultimately amounts to little more than a system resource waste. This keyboard LOOKS cool; that is undeniable. The problem is that it only looks cool until you use it for more than a couple of weeks. Then it looks like a budget piece of junk.

The volume controls are quite insensitive when trying to raise the volume, but fine if you're trying to lower the volume.

On the pro side the backlight color controls are easy to control and an interesting diversion when waiting for something to load or whatever. The only benefit I continued to enjoy until my keyboard became inoperable due to very slight damage was that the key buffer was pretty much unlimited. You could press every key on the keyboard and not have your computer throw a fit.

The keyboard is also a very solid board that will ensure it doesn't break within the first month or two of heavy use. I'm certainly no expert or "gamer" but I've used a few joysticks in my day. WWhat I love about this model is it's flexibilty and adjustability. I have a neurological disorder and I'm gradually losing the use of my right arm and hand (and of course I'm right handed). I bought some games for therapy (thats what I told my wife and I'm sticking to it...LOL). I needed a joystick which I could switch between right and left handed depending on how I was doing that particular day. Plus this model has adjustments for the tilt and angle of the head and buttons which makes it really fit well. The throttle is centrally located and the buttons on the base are duplicated on each side to fully complete it's flexibility and ambidextrousness. The force feedback is new to me, but is a really cool option. All-in-all, this is an excellent joystick and an excellent value.

After many years of using Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander, I was no longer able to repair the aging device and surcome to getting a new controller. Shopping throught all the possible controllers and reviewing customers response, If figure the the Cyborg Command Unit was the the best bet, what a HUGE disappointment, like betting the Detroit Lions will win the superbowl.(sorry guys)

I am just going to list the difficulties, because I really can't recall any positive ones. Dealing with controller for five day and deciding to sending it back for a refund, only to purchase another recommmended by individuals who went throught that same hair pulling situation with the Cyborg controller. The installing the software that it comes with, requires an installation time of five minutes, which afterward then needed to by updated for another four to five minutes before you even start to program the controller. Once you have the complete up to date software installed, its keys are already assign action that you'll need to remove to preform that action the you need to have done. Just more time lost trying to remove that information so that you can set the controller up for your own use. Last and worst problem in dealing with this device is getting help from a customer support, I was so greatful that they have a toll free number to talk to individuals having be left on hold for 10, 20, and 30 minutes waiting to talk with someone that had any concern for my problems or an interest in resolving it felt, like was like an Irishman talking to the Pope.

an overall nicely designed unit and pretty easy to use; however, the keys do get stucked from time to time which made it not great. i am using it in 2D design and when the key stucks it makes my work extremely hard to do especially when the back-step key gets stucked. if the keys did not stuck i would have given a five but since it does i gave it a four.

PS: some of the keys tend to be stiff sometimes. it doesn't affect me that much, but it is still good to know it when buying this unit.

It's a snazzy keyboard. The light is GREAT, since my keyboard slide-drawer is almost always shadowed. My old one was matte-black, which meant I could never see my keys. The light is amazingly useful.

The one downside: the letters themselves are perfectly visible, but some of the keys that have more text aren't fully lit. For instance, the top number row, while the numbers are all lit fine, their shift-symbols are only partially lit. Still enough to figure out what they are though, so it's okay.

I guess I'm reverting to a teenager; I'm 65 but the backlight and see through keys are excellent for 1st person shooters in the dark (heightens the suspense and shock value). I also bought it because the red lights agree with my white/red computer room. As for the product, I've never had a more comfortable keyboard and would definetly recommend it to other touch-typers. Response is excellent, esp. for gaming. At the moment I don't have any complaints. I notice that some others have had trouble with its longevity, and if this fails to last, I'll re-do this review.

I took and applied the NAIL POLISH (clear), two coats....makes the keys feel smooth and the light still shines through the keys well, so far i like the wrist rest thing.

I'm a fast typist (70wpm), but when i'm playing games and using software like Premiere or Photoshop, the traditional "typing mindset" goes away and I'm left hunting for keys. Due to courtesy, a keyboard like this was required. I'll be up front: I paid about $60 for it, and the price seems to vary wildly (i've seen the blue or red models selling for $35 on up to $80), though I think fair value should be under $60. Why?

Pros: This is a straight up good keyboard. the keys feel good to me, they are responsive- though not perfect, the keys are the right sizes and in the predictable places for me (no oddly shaped enter key, no miniscule function keys like on my old MS board), and it works right out of the box on my Windows 7 computer (the volume buttons, the key-light-adjust button). And most importantly: the keys light up nice and evenly.

Cons: the volume buttons, mute, and brightness control button (4 in total) all feel exactly the same. When you're feeling around in the dark, it would be nice if these were differentiated. Still, worst thing that happens is you unmute something loud or briefly kill the lights on your keyboard- no major keys are hard to find. Also, at the price I paid ($60) it would have been nice if they included even a single USB port. Also, if you plunk down a few dollars more keyboards start getting really fancy with LCD screens and knobs and other coolness.

I can understand some peoples' complaints about the letters wearing, but that happens on a lot of keyboards and can vary due to many circumstances. To my hands, this feels like a solid keyboard and if you're in the market for a serious replacement board, this is a good choice that won't break your bank.

This was my first backlit keyboard and as such I don't think I could ever purchase a non backlit keyboard again. So that in and of itself is a good thing.

Pros

-This keyboard is full size and sits level.

-The keys have a nice responsive feedback to them.

-Backlit keys are great.

-Still going after over a year and a half.

Cons

-The keys themselves are painted, leaving the letters clear so the backlight shines through. Not so much a con until you consider that the paint on these keys wears off. I now have 4 keys which are unreadable.

The keys are: s, C, D and .>

The left shift is also wearing off though to the right of the lettering only.

-Backlighting isn't uniform. It appears brighter around the C key and radiating outward. (This one isn't really bad, just an observation.)

-No drivers or software to install so the keyboard always defaults to the brightest setting regardless of your last setting. So if you have the lights off and reboot your computer it will default back to the brightest settings.

Conclusion

All in all, it has been a good keyboard that has served me well, however the longevity of the keyboard is lacking due to paint wearing off on keys. In fact the C key was wearing off within the keyboards first week of use. I highly recommend that you get yourself a backlit keyboard as you will love it more than you could believe if you have never used one. I just don't know if I could recommend this keyboard specifically due to the paint on the keys.

I'm pretty well versed in the basics of computer hardware, especially as it relates to games. I've done several motherboard and memory upgrades and a lot of video-card and hard-drive/CD-ROM drive swaps. But the really serious mods -- the windows and lights and bells and whistles -- always seemed a little beyond me.

I always thought it would be cool to have a slick-looking, modded-up PC, but I wasn't sure I could handle the work, and I didn't really want to buy a ready-made one from the handful of companies that make them (and know it was really just like a thousand others out there). I was also afraid it'd end up being too expensive to justify.

But this book convinced me I could do it, and without breaking the bank. I even used the book to convince a couple of friends to go in with me on the tools and materials, so we can share the costs. We figure if a "Dummy" can do it, then we can.

Great stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to do their own custom mods.

I like the X52 but for some reason it will not calibrate the joystick to the center, it is stuck in the uppewr left hand corner.

Also, there is no printed manual included, just a dvd and a flyer for the Saitek pedals.

In addition, going to the Saitek website to DL game profiles for FSX and Falcon 4.0 is a pain b/c they do not tell you how to install these profiles. They point you to their forum but trying to search their forum is impossible and fruitless.

I will update this as soon as I get this thing firgured out.

This is a bad product. First, the CD with the drivers are for XP only. Can't they print some new CD's for people who have bought a PC within the last half decade? Secondly, like for so many others who have bought the hype and this product, the joystick was broken right out of the box. It read full left aileron input constantly. I looked at the raw input data with the tool from Microsoft - this was 100% a hardware defect in the joystick.

The tech support was no good either. I sent two emails out, a week apart and about different issues. Neither was ever responded to. The help forums are a joke as well. Registration requires administration approval and they are about as responsive as the tech guys: that is, not at all.

The long and short of it is, if you are going to invest a $100 on a joystick try to find something with a better track record.

"Miracle for Combat Sims" 2010-04-01

I've had at least 15 years of flight sim games using a joystick under my belt, and this is the best stick I've ever used. I will warn in the blurb area: This is not for young kiddies.

I've gone through a Sidewinder Precision pro, a solid Thrustmaster, and at least 3 'child grade' thurstmaster sticks (including at least one Top Gun). That's just the ones I owned, not even what I've used. This stick, which I bought refurbished for $40 less than new, is on year 5 or 6 without any major signs of wear. The only worn part is the S-video type cable that connects the stick and throttle is getting weak (a $4 fix). I've managed to keep it in shape by not playing like I'm 6 again, it otherwise seems to take care of itself well.

The layout makes pretty good sense. All but a few buttons are on the throttle and stick, and the few that aren't can be used for less vital functions. Real pilots do move their hands to change the flaps, lights, and whatnot. The pinkie switch can be moved up for smaller hands, or kept in the same position for larger hands. The safety on the second button is a godsend, it keeps you from making a mistake on the ground or before you're on target. The two-stage trigger is also a wonderful piece of work. A two stage trigger means there are two pulls in it, pull halfway and one function is done. Pull all the way and another is done. More on that later.

Large hands should fit in the stick just fine, so long as it's not a bear claw in there. The hardest areas to reach are the hats on the front of the throttle and top left of the stick, but even those aren't much trouble, just a quick shift away. The suction cups do a reasonable job of keeping it down if you're on a good surface,

The software is important to the stick because it allows all sorts of amenities to come into play. The mouse on the throttle works once it's installed, and it has a left and right click and a wheel. It's not particularly awesome, but it does let you navigate a map on the screen without removing your hands from the stick. The LEDs can be turned down or off here, stick deadzones can be set(if you need a little play in it, whether it's getting old or you're a little shaky), and the current time put in.

You wouldn't think the time would be important, but it'll save you from getting into the game and realizing it's 4am. There's also a stopwatch on the MFD that can help you keep time to know how far you've flown or when to expect a visual on a target. If you forget your buttons often, you can even tell the software which button does what (and in each of the 3 modes), and when you simultaneously press the i button on the throttle and the button you forgot, it says what it does on the MFD. Nifty.

This set is built for complicated sims. If you're playing an arcade flight game or multi-style game (think Battlefield 1942, Nam, 2, 2142, BC, BC2), get a $20 for your stick, this isn't what you want. The massive amount of buttons and layout wonders are for sims like Flight Simulator or IL2 Sturmovik (one of, if not THE, most complicated WWII combat sims out). I don't do much FS because I find it dull. I like to turn, fight, and send my enemies down in flames. This stick lets me do that very effeciently. Il2 allows machine guns and cannons to be fired seperately or together (cannons are just massive guns, often with very limited ammo). I mentioned the 2 stage trigger earlier. I use the first stage for plain guns as I line up and close in on my target, and then use the second stage for both at once when my guns are on target. That saves ammo and the player an edge. The wide range of motion means that gently pulling on the stick is actually good, because a full-motion pull will send you into a stall of death. The wheels on the throttle are great for rudder and elevator trim, and the slider for prop pitch or fuel mixture changes. There is always something to do with this stick, and no button goes unused.

Saitek updates the drivers and software, and while there was a small gap in 64 bit and very (VERY) early Vista support, they took care of their customers and got the updates down. There's also a community of users that can supply fixes/support for older games on their forums and other websites. Look around and you'll find what you need.

Treat this baby well and she'll return the favor. If I was able to test them (and had money to spare), I would look at a Thrustmaster Cougar or X-65, but even this stick will have a few things you may or may not like better. As it stands, I have no reason to switch, and just have all the money saved by it. Cheaper does not equal cheap.

I bought this setup in spite of no response from Saitek tech support (asking if it was compatible with Macintosh), and it works great with my iMac Intel Core2 Duo machine. It was purchased to allow me to fly X-Plane 9's helicopters; that's still a hard row to hoe, but it's not the fault of the Saitek equpment! Someone even wrote a little plugin that allows the screen on the throttle portion to display time, date, and radio settings from X-Plane. Highly recommended! And Saitek did eventually reply in the affirmative (that their products work with Macintosh).

I have had Flight Simulator software for years now and have used Microsoft joysticks since the first one. This Saitek joystick opened a whole new way of Flying . I would recommend this product to all . It does take some time to learn how to program for each of the different planes that you will fly . In the end it is worth it . It is best to save and back-up your hard drive other wise all that work is lost .

Just repeating the review I posted on the other X52 Pro:

I bought this joystick for a friend in Brazil in dec of 2006. He plays frequently and never had a problem.

It was love at first sight. I didn't want to give him the first unit and I couldn't buy myself one at that time, however I finally bought mine.

Installation in Windows XP was easy and painless.

Didn't have a single problem, I downloaded the newest driver and programing software from Saitek (I didn't use the CD). Installed them, plugged the Joystick and all worked.

I think that the customizable lights (thee options) in each button are very neat. I have mine to play falcon AF, which has lots of different functions and the different colors help me remember the functions of the buttons.

PROS:

-very customizable

-feels like well built

-a friend has used it for a long time and never had problems. I have mine for 2 weekends and no problem whatsoever.

-has a 2 year warranty

CONS:

-Didn't find any so far. I will update this with time.

I use this joystick with x-plane. It works fine and has a lot of bottons/sliders. I am still learning to adapt it to the simulator. As any other joystick it may not be perfect, but it's still very good.

Follow up:

This joystick could be improved. If the bottom part (where the spring is) is not lubricated, the movement may not be so smooth.

Just recently purchased this unit and I am very happy with the construction and looks of the system. I am however, deeply disappointed with the SST programming documentation that came with this unit. Trying to learn how to write game profiles with the scanty documentation provided is very frustrating, to say the least. Accessing Saitek's forum did provide a few more clues on how to use the profiler, but much more is sorely needed. The instructional videos that can be downloaded, from the forum, was a very good idea, but videos are for the "Pad" unit only. More videos are needed for their other units .... and specifically for others and myself ... the X52 Pro system.

I am sure it is going to take me some time to learn how to take advantage of all the features that this unit offers and I am in high hopes that the longevity of this unit will not be in question, as it is still a new purchase. Other units I have purchased from other manufacturers, have ended up with sticky switches and poor centering of the joystick in a few short months.

To sum up: My biggest gripe is the very poor CD documentation that Saitek offers (pretty much on your own here), unless of course you're a programming guru yourself. For the lay person, it is very confusing.

On the plus side: It seems to be a very well constructed unit, but still not for heavy duty users who like to supply their "own force feedback" in the heat of the gaming battle. I've had no problems with the unit using its standard features, but my reason for purchasing was for the extended programming capabilities that it offers ... and I must add those capabilities are expensive $$$$$.

I gave this unit a rating of 4 stars on its looks and construction only.

I would give it a rating of 1 star on its documentation and support. Hopefully, Saitek will provide the much needed instruction for their units in the not to distant future, as all of it's customers do not want to be Beta testers. When paying this amount of money for a device, the buyer should be getting the maximum "bang for their buck!" Right now, I'm in the wait and see mode .... time will tell if this unit is well worth the dollars spent.

Pros:

Cons:

- Official software useless. JoyToKey or another program works much better

- Analog sticks do not double as buttons like Saitek P990 Dual Analog Game Pad

- Rumble rarely works consistently

- Dpad is not to everyone's liking (I found it to be so-so)

Conclusion: This or the Saitek P990 Dual Analog Game Pad are almost certain to meet any gamepad needs you have, it's really a matter of which you want more: rumble or analog sticks that double as buttons?

After I figured some things out about this gamepad I actually like it. I bought this because of its six face buttons when most have four another model I was comparing to didn't have a start and select button so I bought this one with the impression that the two middle buttons were start and select in fact they are rumble off/on button and analog/digital button. It's the closest I can find with the most buttons for under $40 So I'm going to live with it. I got it to play Nintendo 64 games. Configuring this controller can be easy depending on what you want it to do and it can be difficult I'm not much of an expert and this was my first PC controller I had to do some reading to figure out what an axis and dead zone is but once I figured out how to custom program it using the profile editor I am having a lot of fun with it. If you have a game like Mortal Combat with combinations such as B,D,F,Action Buttons it is possible to program the Gamepad to hit combination keystrokes at programmed time intervals to perform a combination with press of one gamepad button. This is pretty cool once I figured it out and also was little disappointing at first when packaged software wouldn't install on my 64 bit system but it does have a compatible 64 bit driver and software at the Saitek web site.

I owned one of the first models of this controller over ten years ago. I owned the same computer for seven years and never upgraded so I never bought a new controller. I recently found a downloadable version of the couple of games I used to play on that ancient computer. Since I always used that old Saitek to play them I was very excited to see that they were still around and still selling the same type of controller/software. The controller feels the same and the programming works exactly the same! I love it. Very easy to use and works perfectly. If you are not very good at progamming, you want to go straight to gamming, or you want to see how others would set up the controller, you can go to numerous sites and download a pre-exsisting set-up. I downloaded the controls for Doom 3 to use with my old progam (Duke Nukem 3D) and it works just like when I set it up ten years ago. Buy Saitek, you won't be let down!

This review covers the G940 in general, but specifically talks about using it with Rise of Flight: The First Great Air War, a WWI combat simulator by NeoQB.

Joystick:
Love the shape of the stick, love most of the buttons, love the coolie hat altho I haven't found a use for it yet in Rise of Flight (would be nice to pan the in-flight map). The trigger is quality, and has an excellent feel to it -- more like a real trigger than some $0.43 plastic game controller button as on my previous stick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro). The force feedback is actually way to strong for my liking at 100% setting (default), but I like it quite much at about 35%. The shaking when rolling a plane hard, touching the ground, or firing MG's is sweet. The pre-stall buffeting is invaluable when flying an aircraft on the edge of stall. Two of the buttons on top of the stick are difficult for me to reach, and I have probably average size hands (I'm 6' tall).

Throttle:
Very awesome. I'm using the right slide for throttle and the left for radiator. I'm using one of the rotary dials for mixture, and the other for zoom. There are still 4 buttons and two 8-way hats on the throttle that I haven't found a use for yet (TeamSpeak hotkeys maybe?). I'd like to setup the 8 programmable buttons at the base of the throttle to do gestures and flight leader commands, but they don't work in ROF out of the box. It will require a little tweaking in the Logitech software, I guess. In all, the throttle kicks ass.

Pedals:
Sturdy and accurate. I really wish that the tension dial increased the load on the centering spring so that the pedals snapped to center more readily when torqued down. Instead, the tension dial is basically just a "brake" which applies friction to the pedals throughout their range of motion. I don't always feel the center-detent indicating neutral rudder. This will take some getting used to, I suppose.

Software:
It kinda sucks in my opinion. I only messed with it for about 3 minute before determining that nearly everything I wanted to do could be easily accomplished directly in the game.

Overall:
All of the parts feel pretty well made. All of the cables are plenty long enough. I'm very happy with the G940, and I'm pretty sure I'll like it even more as I become proficient with it. Coming from a year or so of using a twist-stick, I really do have to learn how to fly all over again. But I already can't wait to take my SE5a up again, so that's a good sign!

I am not a professional pilot or hardcore flight sim player. As a intermediate skill player, the amount of controls can be overwhelming. The build quality is very nice and I had no software compatibility issues although the setup was quite rigorous. I wish some of the buttons were a bit more tactile and responsive. The force feedback feels as though it could be a little more powerful and less jerky. The four star review comes from the price. I find it hard to believe that this system can justify a nearly $300 dollar price tag. Maybe the hardcore flight sim players will disagree but that is out of my scope.

Once set up completely, the Logitech system is great. It has control and feed back, plus all the shortcut keys on the units themselves. I have played with mouse/keyboard and single joysticks before on flight simulators, but with this setup I have more control of the aircraft and less button searching.

My only complaint so far is there is not auto set-up...having to configure the complete unit takes time. Don't get me wrong, I like being able to fully customize the controls, but a basic setup would be nice to get used to the controls first before reprogramming the units.

"Good body...CHEAP parts..NOT DURABLE" 2010-03-18

I bought this controller back in 2007. The 6 front buttons are really what made me buy it. It felt natural using it for playstation and nintendo64 emulators . It felt like I was using the REAL controller itself. For pc games, it was just as universal. I loved it.

But a few months passed and I noticed the gray directional pad needed to be pressed very hard to get a response. Then it became hard to get a movement response from directions with analog sticks.Also the soft foam coating on top of the analog sticks started rubbing off. I had to scape the rest of off, which wasn't good for my thumbs. Not too long after that, the usb cord that goes inside the controller started shortening out.. or something. The lights on the controller stopped coming on and I had to wiggle the inside cord to get it to start back up. It felt like the controller battery or something was dieing. If the lights on the controller went out, the controller was dead. I couldn't use it.

I loved this controller so much that I rigged the cord in a position that would keep it from going off. Eventually, I had to let it go and buy a new one...
The new one had the same problem.

Saitek uses very cheap parts to build this pretty controller. They are NOT durable.

Since then, I've been using a LogiTech controller and it's very durable. However, it feels like a cheap toy.
I miss the 6 front buttons and the heavy feel of the Saitek controller.

I came across this page because I was actually thinking about buying another Saitk controller.lol But I don't think I will since I've reminded myself WHY I got the logitech.

This pad is sweet with the various Emulators in Ubuntu 9.10.

Especially nice is the fact it is seemingly one of the few pads with six buttons, which is pretty well mandatory for playing n64 games.

Mix that with four button on the back, and there's enough to configure any game. (At least any that come to mind for me.)

Didn't really need or want the two mini-joysticks. But if that's for you, well, there they are.

Good, solid, joystick for my larger hands. Non-plastic gripping material better for my hands then plastic which tends to gunk easier. Whoever made this pad was into gaming.

This is my second Saitek product (I also own an Eclipse II back-lit keyboard). My experience with the game pad has been fantastic.

It has sufficient buttons for every game I've thrown at it.

The lighting ring helps with visibility when you're playing in a dark setting.

I'm primarily a Mac user, so I can report that it works fine on that platform right out of the box. I run Windows on my machine, too, and the gamepad works great there, although I have not yet tried the custom software.

My primary gripe is that I would have liked the main analog stick to give some tactile feedback for the up/left/right/down directions. The stick is in a squared-off enclosure, so you get feedback for when you're hitting the diagonals, but it can be tricky to maintain a constant up/left/right/down direction without a bit of drift.

i bought this, because i wanted a 6 buttons on the front for fighters, specifically 2D fighters, since the x-box 360 controller, well sucks for 2D fighters. this was also cheap too, about $15.00.

anyways this controller works great!
the D-pad looks weird at first, but it is very good for 2D fighters, i can easily pull of hadokens (QCF) and other movements with ease for street fighter games, and other fighting games too. however you need to press on all of the points a bit slow, like for QCFs you kind of have to roll you thumb on all of the points to pull it off (down,forward down, forward). this takes some time to get use to it, but then it just becomes second nature. also some fighting games are hit and miss with the D-pad. like the d-pad works great for street fighter 3, however there are some issues i had while playing project justice:rival schools 2, like doing 2 QCF and a punch to activate a super. i would either do i forward punch or a dash punch instead of my super. however a normal special, with just one input of a QCF works fine. the analog sticks work great too. all of the face buttons seem to work excellent too. it may take some time to get use to 6 of them if you have only used 4. there is a FPS button, however i don't have any FPSs. there are four shoulder buttons, set up much like the PSX 1 or 2, and theres also an analog button, which turns off the D-pad feature.(you press on the d-pad and nothing happens) however there are no start or select buttons, which is odd. maybe in the next one they can add them. if they did it would be THE perfect controller. although not that its a problem since most games only use 8 buttons and theres 10, so you can set it to one of the others. if you have Xpadder or some other program that does joypad to keyboard (i'd suggest looking into that stuff if you emulate stuff) you can easily set the analog button for the start button on games, however it will still toggle the D-pad on/off.

the controller is bulky, but very light.the USB cord seems a little on the short side, however i'm not too far from the usb port so it really doesn't effect me at all. you also don't need software for this either, which is good.

in the end if you looking for something with 6 face buttons, this IS the gamepad for you. its very good with 2D fighters, and 3D, and other genres too so get this!

I really enjoy the combination set. While I am not a very 'techy' person I will just give you my personal feelings and judgment based on use and not specs. The programming for me was hard to learn and use. Once I read the directions about 6 times I think I have it down now.
My first set came in damaged and could not use the joy stick. Amazon did a great job taking care of the problem, sent me a new set immediately, then I sent the defective set back.
Over all feel is smooth and translates to the controls on the screen with equal sensitivity and precision. I used to have a force feedback joystick from Saitek and I do miss that feedback from the stick. Still, this set is so good I am getting used to it very quickly.
I have one other control that I am not familiar with called the 'mouse button' on the throttle control handle. This tiny joystick will take the place of the mouse to move your viewpoint around and get the big picture while flying and in combat. It is not intuitive and needs some practice to use. Again the more I use it the better I get.
I only wish there were more profiles I can download to use the stick to it's full potential, I just have to keep looking and set some of the profiles myself.
I have a question for anyone out there. What is the 'i' button on the throttle. When it is pressed the hat button on the joystick blinks. I could not find any info on the use of this button.

I've had the stick for eight months now. The look and feel are excellent. They've added an additional spring to the stick since the x45 which improves handling. The MFD is a real plus if your game supports it. My main use is for MS FlightSim X which it works great for. Being able to change the colors of the various buttons also helps categorize the use you have set for them. And the programmable options for the buttons are top notch.

My main issue with the stick is reliability. The buttons and hats on the stick have now stopped working. (Throttle works fine). Two emails to tech support over the past week have gone without response. I had a Saitek X45 which I replaced with this because it also failed (though after much longer use than the eight months with this one). So I've temporarily fallen back to CH Flightstick that I've owned for 15 years and is reliable as ever.

So, in a nut shell...while the stick worked, it was a joy. Best stick I've ever used. But how long it will perform that way is a roll of the dice IMO. Your mileage may vary.

"Get the Flight Yoke instead" 2010-01-30

I received this as a gift and had to return it. It looks great and is built quite well, but it doesn't work well for simulators. The fundamental problem is that the auto-centering mechanism involves a concave metal ring that sits around the base of the stick. The friction induced by the movement of the ring against the base is significant, and make it incredibly hard to move the stick by very small amounts (as is necessary for maintaining level flight, for instance).

In the end I got the Saitek PZ44 PRO FLIGHT YOKE SYSTEM GAME CONTROLLER instead, which doesn't have the same "sticking" problem, and is almost as accurate as the simulator controls at the local flight school.

"MFD Failure with FSX! Common problem!" 2010-01-11

I hate to bash a product online but I feel that others should know about the problems with this flight system before spending their money on it. I received the Saitek X52 Pro a few weeks ago and have had some time to use it with FSX and IL2. While the joystick and throttle control feel solid and seem well designed, the execution is poor. The multi-function display (MFD) just suddenly died on my unit and now, while in FSX, you have no idea if a profile is loaded (the display is completely blank with the exception of the current time being displayed (gee, that's helpful)). Considering that the information contained on the MFD is supposed to be usefull and a big selling point distinguishing this setup from other flight sticks out there, you'd think Saitek would work on a solution and correct this problem. Guess again. I searched on Saitek's forums and apparently this problem is well known in the X52 Pro community and has been an issue for YEARS yet Saitek has been unable/unwilling to fix it. Saitek's tech support is a complete joke.

Furthermore, there is no real documentation to help with programming and understanding the functions of the product. The help files are equally useless.

If Saitek is going to sell a joystick for the amount of money this thing is listed for, Saitek really should be providing at least some customer service. How can you sell a product with known issues and then do nothing about it? Bad. Bad. Bad. Buyer beware.

"Saitek x52 pro works well" 2009-11-18

I have read the past reviews and in the face of alot of negative ones I decided to buy the Saitek X52 Pro. I recieved this controller and set it up exactly as specified in the instructions and I learned it was not plug and play. I thought it was because the instructions said it was. After much fiddling around I realized I had a defective model and had to send it back. Amazon was exceptional about helping me to obtain a new one for replacment and I plugged the replacement in and VOILA!!! It works and works like a charm and you can set it up to just play but this is a complex piece of electronics and programming, you can go into control panel and the profile editor and completely custom tailor this fine piece of work. I have noticed that my landings are so much softer, I was getting an avg of -200fpm in the big jets and now in the 744 and 777 I get about -50fpm to -100 fpm. Now there is alot more to a landing than the controller but all things being equal this controller was the answer for me.

Not all electronics will work the first time you plug them in, it's just the nature of the beast. You will be pleased with this product if you allow your patience and understanding to be ruler. I got mine replaced and I am a very happy customer and will look forward to buying Saiteks rudder pedals soon.

I ordered this speaker a few months ago based on the good reviews on Amazon. I have to say, there is NOTHING Bose-like, or even good, about this little speaker. The sound is tinny and sometimes forces a reboot in order not to come out static-y. It makes a sound like it is lying against a metal object when it isn't...For $40, I'd say definitely not worth it. I am ordering a replacement today after only a few months and am going to spend a little more to get something that sounds decent. Am upset to have wasted $40. Save your money.

The Keyboard is heavy duty, solid, & sets up through plug & play as soon as
it's plugged in. I run Windows Vista Pro, and there where no conflicts.
The Back lights on the keys are perfect, Color selection, & brightness all done through optical sensors on the dash of the keyboard. It's USB friendly,

Color is a powerful factor in our moods, and that makes it a powerful factor in our productivity. Being able to change this keyboard to a color that either fits or redirects my current mood makes it well worth the higher price tag. I purchased this for its back lighting, but I find I have even more reasons to enjoy it, including the extra shortcut buttons that line each edge. The browser shortcuts on the left side include forward and back buttons as well as refresh. The computer buttons on the right side include "my computer" and a one touch button to my on screen calculator which I use quite often. I still have more to read to find out if these buttons are programmable, but as it stands right now, this is by far the most enjoyable keyboard I've owned yet. I did rate ease of use at 4 rather than 5 stars simply because the buttons are a little harder to push, though that may just be about getting used to them as compared to my old keyboard.

I am enjoying this keyboard with it`s nice buttons and back light which you get to choose the color and it`s level of brightness. the side short-cut keys are also a nice touch. but because of it the keyboard is kinda wide. There are many well written reviews about this keyboard so I won't repeat what you have previously read. I had the Saitek II keyboard and loved it. Once you have an illuminated keyboard there is no going back. I'll be the first one to admit that I am hard on a keyboard. Spilled drinks, cigarette ashes,(I quit) food crumbs etc. The Saitek took all of this abuse but after 4 years of heavy use the space-bar key broke. There was no fixing it. Having had a good buying experience I ordered the Saitek III. This keyboard is very impressive looking with many bells & whistles that you may not need. It does take up a lot of real estate on your desk top so make sure you have the room. It's about 6 inches longer than the compact Saitek II so if space is an issue you may not want this. Most desk tops should accomadate this without a problem. The most noticeable difference is the "Feel" of the keyboard. The Saitek II keys feel hard with short strokes. The Saitek III keys feel much softer allowing faster typing speeds. Your fingers float over the keys as opposed to banging them. Bottom Line: This is one impressive keyboard that I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

I have a Sitek yoke system that I purchased some time back. I was not able to get these pedals to work properly. every time I pushed one of the pedals the airplane went totally out of control. I called the help line with Sitek. Even though the person was very polite, he was not able to give me any clues other that connecting directly to the computer instead of the Sitek yoke console in case the input was too much for the single USB port from the yoke to the computer...(I thought this system was meant to work together) I did that and it didn't help at all, nothing changed. He suggested that I call Microsoft ! ! ! Can you imagine? calling Microsoft?
I returned it and got my money back. I now am back to using the number keyboard pad for rudder control. I am a private pilot and was hoping to get the complete control of the plane with these pedals. The experience was a total failure. I would not recommend them unles you have time to call Microsoft in case it doesn't work... ;-(

These are a great set of rudder pedals. Very well constructed but not made of steel. They function smooth as glass and are easy to set up. If used in a normal fashion, they should hold up well. Because plastic is used in the construction, a strong "stomp" might break them. I have had no trouble with mine and am happy with the purchase.

I use the saitek rudder pedals with a saitek Pro Joystick and everything works as advertised!
The install went smoothly. I use them with FSX.
Construction seems to be of high quality.
The adjustable control knob in the middle of the pedals does a good job of adjusting the tension on the pedals.
Getting the toe breaks to work in FSX took a little trial and error, but does work.
I would recommend these to my friends.

I have Flight Simulator X, Saitek Pro Flight yoke with the 3 lever throttle unit, and the Saitek Rudder pedals.
This program is just what it is named a Flight Simulator. I thought this program would be more game like. This program is not very friendly. I think this program assumes the people who buy it are familiar with flying planes. I have found that many people that buy this package are pilots when I called tech support. I suggest that you print out and read the instructions and the controls diagram if you are a beginner like me. In order to enjoy this program you need to buy the Flight Yoke and throttle controls using the keyboard is difficult and not much fun. I also bought the rudder pedals, but it is going to take some time for me to get it all working together, I'm a beginner so the yoke and throttle is enough for now.
If you are thinking of some day flying a plane this is the package to get. If you just want jump in and just start flying get something easier. Also USB extensions over 8 feet without an amp should not be used because I had problems with a 10 foot extension cable turning the yoke on and off.

As an old commercial pilot, SE & ME CFII, and aviation enthusiast (retired) I decided to get back into my love of aviation with FSX and a joystick was not realistic for my general aviation background. The Saitek ProFlight Yoke System is within my budget and still provides a near actual feel and capabilities that I desired. The only problem was mounting the units on my computer desk that has a front sloping edge. A quick trip to Home Depot for some foam weather stripping and commercial grade velcro allowed me to create a padding to compensate for the gap at the slope and also secure the units for good steady use. I strongly suggest the use of the ProFlight Rudder Pedals to complete the setup. They also work well mounted to a plastic chair mat with velcro. Using a Sharpie fine point pen to make an outline around the units makes it simple to re-install and find your velcro after a removal. I had my doubts about the plastic design but that has proven to be no problem. Windows 7 searched for the current Saitek software drivers and made the whole experience enjoyable. Amazon free shipping in 2 business days along with the best price was a plus.

I suppose it's the best available for the price. Besides the much lauded metal shaft with bearings, I was surprised at how cheaply constructed this product is. It feels very fragile, like you could crack the thin plastic with little force. The throttle quad is also quite insubstantial, giving the impression that they could easily snap off. I guess I'm just used to racing on my G25, a very high quality peripheral.
Also, I was surprised to learn that the yoke only has 45 degrees travel in either direction from center. Almost all aircraft yokes have 90 degrees travel from center. This makes for an undesireable input curve to the sim.
Again, in this price range it's about the only thing available. You'll probably have to spend $700+ for the next best product. But still, on the basis of quality of materials and construction, this one is disappointing.

"Review from a Different Background" 2010-02-23

First of all, I'm not to terribly big into realworld style flight sims. While I have always had an interest in flying, I more or less gave up on it simply because it was too involved for me to "relax" with. My previous tastes in joysticks have always been fairly simple - I went from a 2button stick to a Logitech Wingman Digital, from that to a Wingman Force, from that to a Saitek ST290...

Well, last week, my ST290's trigger bit the dust, ironic, huh? So, I considered dragging the Wingman Force out, but still could not find a compatible adapter. It was time to upgrade again. After much consideration between sticks, I decided on the X52. I had a mostly positive experience with my previous stick, and I had always been interested in trying a fullblown HOTAS setup. It came in last night, and so now my real review can begin:

Out of the box, I was fairly impressed. Looking at the buttons and stuff in pictures is one thing, but actually seeing the sheer size and complexity of the system first hand is another. I had never used a HOTAS setup before, so I was slightly intimidated. I downloaded the updated drivers profiler and got busy. When I finally hooked it up, I found that one of the LED's (T5/6) was dead. No big deal though because I love the option of being able to KILL the LED's in the settings. I load up an old favorite that I had been playing through before the ST290 died - TIE Fighter.
Well, I knew I'd run into difficulty, seeing as how complex the stick was, and comparing it to how TIE Fighter only supports 3 variable axis - X/Y for the stick and Z for the throttle. No big deal though. I set things up and actually start a mission... Only to find out how incredibly responsive this stick is. Going from the ST290 and Wingman series to something like this is a huge jump. It was almost TOO responsive - I had been used to having larger deadzones and less responsiveness so it is a huge adjustment going to this.

Next I decided to crank up X-Wing Alliance. After some painstaking setup, I found that XWA actually supported FEWER buttons in the game than TIE Fighter did, although XWA supports the rudder twist. So, I tried out the Profiler. I couldn't find any preexisting profiles for XWA, so I began working on my own. A Half an hour later, I was done. It was still incredibly sensitive, but overall it was really nice being able to program via the profiler.

Pros/Cons:

Pro - A huge jump up in sensitivity.
Pro - The Feel. Even in a game like XWA and TIE Fighter and XvT, there's something just plain cool about being spread out with the hands on a full blown throttle and stick. I might've sucked in game because of the sensitivity, but I was grinning like a fool the whole time.
Pro - Throttle Control - The throttle has two spots that require a bit more of a push to engage - one is nearing 100%, one is nearing 0%. I really liked this because in the X-Wing Series games 33% is best for turning. The extra push required keeps me from completely throttling down when busy with a bogey.
Pro - Mouse Control on Thumb. It's just cool, and VERY handy.

Con - A huge jump up in sensitivity. If you're used to older sticks or more primitive sticks, you will likely find yourself overshooting targets.
Con - Intimidating. Alot of options can be incredibly intimidating to set up if you're not used to dealing with as much complexity.
Con - Lack of support in older games. I love the idea of the knobs and sliders, but unfortunately, they're not supported in alot of older games, and even with the profiler they are not easily set up.
Con - Lack of Force Feedback. I thought it had it, but I guess that's the Pro model. Not a big con, but still on there. For $100, I kind of expected it.
Con - I have slightly smallish hands, so the most tall Hat is kind of hard to manipulate easily.

Overall, I have to say it's a great stick. For my application, it's OVERKILL, however. I still have a few games that I'm going to try out with it, but currently, it's overkill. I enjoy it, but overkill.

I use to have the Extreme Pro Joystick and it was nothing compare to the X52. I have FSX and this joystick was perfect for it. very cool, adjustable to hand size, customizable brightness of the LED's and much more.
I really recommend this product for you guys that play FSX or for EX: Tom Clancy's Hawx.

Works very well with flight sim. Happy with purchase - haven't started to work on customization/"programming" of the devices, but they worked well right out of the box. You won't be disappointed with the X52!

I purchased this with the CH Pro pedals. I used the control system with a IMAC 24" XPlane flight sim and all worked fairly well. The sensitivities of the controls are good and the control assignments were easily. Setup was simple, the construction seems durable and the included rubber cups prevents the controls slipping on my desk. I really like the setup since it uses only one usb port to connect to my computer. When I get bored with XPlane, I switch over to windows/fusion and fly MS Flight Sim X - and whether it's the control systems or Sim X control assignments are limited.
Overall a good product.

I purchased an X52 joystick from Amazon in January 2010. My PC runs Vista Professional X64 and I planned to use the X52 with Microsoft FSX. I downloaded the current drivers & software for Vista X64 from [...]. With FSX, the X52 can be used as or, a better alternative is to create a "profile" -- which assigns keystrokes to the buttons/switches on the X52. For example, the trigger on the joystick can be assigned the keystroke "." -- which turns on the airplanes brakes while taxiing in FSX. Saitek provides a downloadable FSX profile on its website or you can create your own. The software allows you activate the profile, and, in theory, you can then use the buttons/switches on the X52. I can see how FSX would work a lot better with the button/switches on the X52. In my case, when no profile was in use, the X52 seems to work OK--I could press any button or switch and, while it had no effect on the game, the X52 did not lockup. When a profile was in use, the X52 worked OK until I used a button or switch (any button or switch that had been programmed in the profile). Then all buttons/switches locked-up--though the throttle & joystick continued to work. I could clear the problem by disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable to the X52--but the problem reappeared the next time I used a button or switch. Also, after the X52 locked-up, I was unable to shut down the PC until I unplugged the USB cable to the X52. I uninstalled and re-installed the software and drivers. No change. I tried both the FSX profile downloaded from [...] and a profile I made myself. Same result in both cases. I made sure all cable connnections were fully inserted. I connected the X52 to the PC using the USB port at the back of the PC--not via a USB hub. I emailed Saitek for technical assistance, but did not receive a response. I then returned the item to Amazon.com -- the return went very, very smoothly and I was really pleased with that aspect of it.
